Scholarship

The Gros Cap School Memorial Scholarship began as a memorial in honor of former administrator and teacher Robert “Bob” Buchholz who passed away on October 29, 1991. He served the Moran Township School for 28 years from 1948 until his retirement in 1975.

Bob had deep feelings for “his school” and his impact on the people he touched through his teaching, administrating and daily life continues to be felt. At his request, the Moran Township School was designated as a memorial recipient for those wishing to make a contribution.

Original donations plus fundraisers by staff and students were utilized to form the basis for affiliation in the St. Ignace Area Community Foundation of the Community Foundation of Upper Peninsula.

In subsequent years, $1,000 scholarships have been awarded to students wishing to pursue an educational goal beyond high school. Your donation honoring any Gros Cap person is welcome in the Gros Cap School Memorial Scholarship Fund.
